Mechanical Design Engineer
Department: Product Development
Project Location(s): HQ Penang, Malaysia

1. Mechanical Design & Development
- Design mechanical systems, modules, and assemblies for automation equipment using 3D CAD.
- Prepare 2D drawings, tolerances, GD&T, and BOMs in accordance with internal standards.
- Perform basic engineering calculations (loads, stiffness, thermal, motion, etc.) to validate designs.
2. Product & System Integration
- Work closely with Electrical, Software, and Product Engineers to ensure mechanical designs support system integration and performance.
- Support integration of actuators, motion systems, vision components, fluidics, and dispensing modules.
- Ensure mechanical designs support serviceability, safety, and usability.
3. DFM / DFA & Manufacturing Support
- Apply DFM/DFA principles during design to ensure efficient manufacturing and assembly.
- Support prototype builds, pilot runs, and transition to manufacturing.
- Resolve manufacturing and assembly issues through design improvements and ECNs.
4. Supplier & Component Management
- Select standard and custom mechanical components (e.g. linear guides, motors, bearings, fasteners, profiles).
- Work with suppliers on custom parts, tolerances, and manufacturability.
- Support cost optimisation through component standardisation and design simplification.
5. Verification, Testing & Improvement
- Support design verification and validation through testing, measurements, and analysis.
- Participate in failure analysis and root cause investigations related to mechanical issues.
- Drive design improvements based on field feedback, reliability data, and CI initiatives.
6. Documentation, Quality & IMS
- Maintain accurate and complete design documentation and revision control.
- Ensure designs comply with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and applicable safety standards.
- Support internal and external audits related to design and engineering controls.
- Minimum 3 years of experience mechanical design for equipment, automation, or machinery.
- Fresh graduate with a strong passion for mechanical design are welcome to apply (Junior level).
- Experience in precision mechanisms, motion systems, or equipment integration is an advantage.
- Proficient in 3D CAD and 2D drafting (e.g. SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo).
- Good understanding of machining, sheet metal, fabrication, and assembly processes.
- Familiar with tolerancing, GD&T, and basic engineering calculations
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Mechatronics or equivalent.
